Person of Interest got unplanned romance right with Root and Shaw
Person of Interest’s ‘6,741’ aired eight years ago this week. One of the best episodes, it was a drastic, sexy, and tragedy-laced 43 minutes. The goal was to stitch together years of build-up for its two female leads into a hugely rewarding episode that would juice everything out of the series’ unplanned romance. Well, kids, they did it!
Person of Interest was never a show destined to tell great love stories. It had a cold tone and plotty structure, and most characters had a stoicism that made romance piercing through difficult.
However, it's perhaps because of those hurdles that when Person of Interest did go there, it made sure to stick the landing.
Accidental Meet-cute
To say their story started when they met would be disingenuous, as there was no long-term plan when they came face to face in ‘Relevance’. This, serendipitously, was Shaw’s introductory episode, though, so fate pushed them together from the start.
